We are excited to announce that Fruitos, a local food distributor, is the very first Waste Warrior of the Month. Fruitos now diverts two skip bins of fresh produce from landfill each week. This is a truly amazing outcome, which will see Fruitos save on the cost of waste services and demonstrates their corporate social responsibility.

A remarkable team of 12 volunteers took up the cause when there was no recycling available at the park and wow, what an impact they have had.
Each week they take on the responsibility for servicing 18x 240 litre-recycling bins at the RV Park. Over the time that this amazing group of Waste Warriors has been together, they have recycled 709 bins of paper, 218 bins of glass and 47 Ute loads of cardboard. All of these reusable resources have been kept out of landfill due to the teams commitment and passion to do the right thing.
And thanks to Richmond Valley Councils free drop off for recyclables it hasn’t cost a thing!
Julie James, Park Manager says of the waste warrior team; “We think its shows great community spirit and we are very proud of them”. The Casino Village RV Park has built a reputation based on sustainability with a swag of awards for sustainable environmental and socially responsible management.
As part of Armsign’s Environmental Policy we began a recycling program about 12 months ago. Prior to this we were putting all of our waste into a 2 cubic metre dumpster which was emptied once a week straight to landfill.
Since initiating our Waste Reduction Policy our general waste has reduced to one wheelie bin once a week, which equates to approximately 87% reduction in landfill. Instead of the large dumpster, we now have a one cubic metre dumpster which recycles paper, cardboard, some plastics & polystyrene.
In addition, we have regular recycling, organic waste collection and due to the nature of our business all aluminium off-cuts etc are recycled back to metal recycling stations. Combining the waste reduction with the longevity of our signage we probably now offer the “greenest” signs in Australia.

The Yamba Golf Club contacted the Waste Warriors project to take part in the Bintrim program. From the solutions identified through the program, Yamba Golf Club is now diverting over 7 cubic metres of waste each week from landfill into recycling and has saved close to $20,000 pa on their waste disposal costs.

LJ Hooker Kingscliff use ‘Close the Loop’ to recycle printer cartridges - a great free service. They have increased their capacity for comingled recycling through additional yellow recycle bins from Tweed Shire and also have a security-shredding bin. Staff minimise printing wherever they can, however being a realestate office there is a lot of paper used and when finished with they use a combination of these services to recycle the paper.

Beach Bakery Kingscliff are reducing waste by:
- Providing some leftover bread for regular pick up by local farmer
- Participating in Plastic Free July
- Selling reusable nylon bags and use biodegradable/compostable coffee cup lids
- Asking suppliers to reduce packaging
- Surveying staff to get feedback and illicit support for improved waste practices
- Networking with adjacent businesses and are keen to work with them / share bins etc.
- Looking to donate more of their left over bakery products!
My Vet Twin Towns Veterinary Clinic are reducing waste by the following these easy steps:
- Purchasing recycled paper to use in the clinic
- Recycling scrap paper and using it for bedding and litter
- Reducing the amount of washing loads
- Reducing printing by cutting out certain letters posted and setting it up electronically
- Recycled bin provided for cardboard boxes provided

The Illawong Hotel at Evans Head and Rod n Reel in Woodburn are well on their way towards a more sustainable way of doing business having taken the initiative to commence better waste management with a focus on recycling more. They have been very proactive and have looked at a whole range of ways to decrease their waste going to landfill. They are undertaking staff training, organizing larger recycling bins, trialing a glass crusher and now collecting their aluminum cans for resale.
